A Message from the Club President

The theme for this year is "Make Dreams Real". With this in mind our Rotary International President, DK Lee, has asked us to focus on our most precious recource in every community - our children.  we are being asked to initiate a local or international service project that reduces child mortality. Every day some 26,000 cvhildren under the age of five die from preventable causes - this equates to an annual figure of 9.7million child deaths - they die from pneumonia, measles and malaria. They die from lack of clean water. And many more die from a combination of factors caused by malnutrition and poverty.  And so we will be looking at projects which incorporate food and water, health care and schooling.

Following on our commitment to the local community, we will be looking to the community for their input in choosing projects that are relevant to the community.

Our commitment to international projects will include a proposed trip to the Solomon Islands to help with the building of huts to house bed nets in the fight againt Malaria.

Our club will again be involved with the local schools as well as free swimming lessons for the local children and our organisation of the "Model United Nations" for year 10 students to debate world issues in a 'United Nations" styled format.

Our club has again sponsored the Tasmanian Training awards and well as hosting a group of young professionals visiting from overseas.

Our main fundraiser for the year, which provides the funds to support all our projects, is our Tasmanian Craft Fair which is held on the first weekend in November each year and attract over 25000 people to the town of Deloraine.

The success of any club is dependent on having fun and together with our interesting and varied guest speakers at our meetings, our social events which include dinners, golf, and fishing to name a few and our working bees, the Rotary club of Deloraine is a leader in our local community.
